800 Octane

Biography (2010)

800 Octane is one of the hardest working bands you've never heard of. Every band wants to make that claim but over the past 16+ years 800 Octane has quietly and slowly evolved from a struggling band finding it's sound to a Portland punk rock institution. At the core of it all is a long running friendship between the members and a common interest in writing aggressive, yet catchy songs based on what could be described as "B movie sensibilities".

You can't continue on for this long without being able to play live. 800 Octane has been consistently delivering energetic and solid shows everywhere from tiny basements to some of the best venues around. The motto is simply "play like it's your last show and try not to break anything important". Driving countless hours to perform who whoever will listen is the name of the game and to date they've put 500+ shows under their belts. The payoff has been the chance to play with many of their influences and idols including The Misfits, Tiger Army, The Living End, Guttermouth, UK Subs, H2O, Strike Anywhere, New Found Glory, All, Strung Out, TSOL, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bigwig, Sum 41, Saves The Day, The Loved Ones, Poison Idea, Face To Face, Gwar and even three appearances on the Warped Tour. Not bad for a band that prefers singing about zombies to politics.

Released in 2008, 800 Octane's fifth studio album entitled 'Requiem' completes a trilogy of CD's recorded with Conrad Uno of Seattle's legendary Egg Studios, which has spawned the likes of Mudhoney, Zeke, Nashville Pussy, The Groovie Ghoulies and even the Presidents Of The United States. Although the title may suggest a somber series of songs to honor the dead, it's ironically their most lively album to date with more speed, more melody and more variety than prior albums. With 18 tracks in just under 44 minutes the songs and hooks come at you fast and furious. Topics range from movies, to girls, to monsters and then back again before you realize it. These songs aren't meant to change the world. They are intended to give anyone with a pulse (or without one) a chance to get their blood flowing a little bit faster.
